That .280 is a fine round.  You may be surprised how many I have worked on to the reduce muzzle rise.  If your rifle shoots good now we can work together and make it shoot great.  I do a lot of work for old guys like me on recoil and reducing muzzle rise on shotguns and rifles.  Am still willing to help if you would like, shoot me a note.

i have a .300 wby mag that a pleasure to shoot.  notavegetarian gave it a good working over and it is night and day difference.  almost no muzzle rise, and the recoil less than brians 308 savage.  he has two more of my rifles now for stock work
