I just got my mount back last week and it doesn't smell at all...It is all in what the brine your taxidermist uses..to cure the hide ..My taxidermist makes his own brine ..not a product bought from a supplier..I would talk to yours and see what is up with it..That would really make my wife mad if it would smell...wouldn't even be allowed in the house..

probably didn't have the proper drying period but you can buy a product called odo-ban and spray it on the mount without negative results and should eventually go away.

Makes me wonder if he let the hide sit in a humid environment too long and the hide got mildew on it. Does it smell rancid?

Can you describe the smell? I have heard of this happening when bacteria gets into the hide.

It sounds biological. Isn't there some way to place it in hot dry conditions long enough to kill the bacteria? Would that hurt the mount? What does your taxidermist say?

Sounds to me like your taxidermist used the DP method and didn't tan the hide. I've heard that can be a result. If that's the case I would say get a cape and have it re-mounted. If it was the DP method you also run the risk of bugs. Worth checking into.
