My dauhter and I went to a hunter ed. class a coupl weeks ago .  The C.O. said that they are just proposals right now for the 2011 season.  If it goes through the gun season will only be 9 days instead of 15. They want  add a doe only season late in the year. You will be able to hunt the rut! bt it might be with a bow!! Also they want an earn a buck program for urban deer zones.. but for this season everything will be the same. Except youth season they can take a deer of either sex.

same as Ohio we have a 7-9 day shotgun (yes shotgun and muzzleloader only no high powered rifles) then we have another 3-4 day season later (typically 3-4 weeks apart)

they really shortened our bow season the last couple years it was Sept 1-Feb 28th now last year they shortened it to Sept 15th and this year is the 25th start date and ending on the 6th of Feb so almost 2 months cut off of it

have no idea heard that they want to control the deer population and since most hunt bucks they want to wait till after the rut so the does get pregnant but not 100% sure why

but here is what I dont understand about that is that we are allowed 4 deer in the northwestern state and 6 deer in the western and southern state BUT ONLY 1 BUCK the rest have to be does so why wait till they are pregnant to kill them???

I think every state should only allow bow hunting during rut, but gun season should be brought in early and I think you should have to kill a doe to get your buck tag.
If you ever see me fighting a bear jump in and help the bear.

why should the gun season be brought in before the archery season? its harder to get a buck to come within range of a bow then it is with a gun then the bow hunters wouldnt have a chance the bucks would all be spooked makes no sense to me

People can tell the Natural Resources Commission what they think of the proposed rule changes at the Indiana DNR website. From what I hear people arent very happy with some of the proposed changes. Some of them are; 2 day doe only shotgun season in the middle of October, Shorten shotgun for bucks to 8 days, have a doe only shotgun season between Christmas and New years, and Shorten muzzleloader season down to 9 days. They need to control the doe population but I dont agree with these changes myself.
